Mininet as a Container Based Emulator for Software Defined Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mininet is network emulation software that allows launching a virtual network with switches, hosts and an SDN controller all with a single command on a single Linux kernel. It is a great way to start learning about SDN and Open-Flow as well as test SDN controller and SDN applications. Mininet can be used to deploy large networks on a single computer or virtual machine provided with limited resources. It is freely available open source software that emulates Open-Flow device and SDN controllers. Keywords— SDN, Mininet, Open-Flow, Python, Wireshark

Mininet as Software Defined Networking Testing Platform
Mininet is an emulator for deploying large networks on the limited resources of a simple single Computer or Virtual Machine. Mininet has been created for enabling research in Software Defined Networking (SDN) and OpenFlow. Mininet emulator allows running unmodified code interactively on virtual hardware on a simple PC. It provides convenience and realism at very low cost. The alternative to Min...
متن کاملMininet Clustering
This paper presents a distributed version of Mininet, an Openflow network emulator. Normally, Mininet emulates an entire network of hosts and switches, each running as a seperate process within a Linux container, all on the same machine. Unfortunately, emulating networks that require more resources than a single machine are currently impossible in Mininet. By extending Mininet with cross-machin...
متن کاملMininet Performance Fidelity Benchmarks
This initial Mininet technical report evaluates the performance fidelity of the Mininet/Mininet-HiFi system by examining results from two classes of experiments: link tests (section 2) and microbenchmarks (section 3.) This is a work in progress which will be updated as we develop more tests as well as a deeper understanding of the performance and timing characteristics of Mininet/Mininet-HiFi a...
متن کاملA lightweight container-based virtual time system for software-defined network emulation
Container-based network emulation offers high fidelity and a scalable testing environment to bridge the gap between research ideas and real-world network applications. However, containers take their notions of time from the physical system clock, and thus the time-stamped events from different containers are multiplexed to reflect the scheduling serialization by the Linux operating system. Conj...
متن کاملScalable Emulator for Software Defined Networks
Since its inception, Software Defined Network (SDN) has made itself a very appealing architecture for both Data Center and Wide Area networks by offering more automated control through programmability and simplified network operations and management with its centralized control plane. However, extensive rollout of SDN in the production environment requires thorough validation. Thus, there is a ...
